About Us

Who we are

We live a surf and turf lifestyle by splitting our time close to the Chesapeake Bay and here in the mountains. As avid hikers, campers, lovers of wine and fine foods, we have been coming to this area for many years before finally purchasing this property and building our home. Read on if you would like to hear the story of how we were able to get this little slice of heaven.

In 2009, we visited this area for the first time with a group of close friends, staying in a beautiful farmhouse set on a sprawling piece of land. The stunning scenery and the abundance of nearby activities immediately won us over. We quickly fell in love with everything the Shenandoahs had to offer. It became a tradition to rent the same home that we affectionately named ‘The Yellow House’ and over time, the dream of owning our own property in this special place began to grow.

We decided to start looking for property and hired a realtor to explore the surrounding counties. Despite our efforts, nothing felt quite like our cherished retreat. Eventually, we paused our search but kept an eye on new listings as they came up.

One evening, we received a notification about a new property on the market, and the road address caught our attention right away. It was located on Whippoorwill Road—the same road as the Yellow House. It felt like fate when we realized the farmhouse we had been renting for years was adjacent to the property for sale. We immediately contacted our realtor, rushed out to see it. As soon as we saw the view, we knew it was the one. We submitted our best offer along with a heartfelt letter sharing our story.

We’re not sure if we had the highest offer, but we were told the letter played a part in the owners’ decision to sell the property to us among several other offers. How all of this unfolded was serendipitous to say the least.

If you’re looking for a larger home to rent, we highly recommend our neighbor, The Yellow House
